Karachi Imposes Two-Month Ban on Tinted Windows and Fancy Number Plates

The Commissioner of Karachi has enforced a two-month ban on the sale, distribution, and installation of fancy number plates, pressure horns, and tinted windows in the city.

This decision follows a request from the DIG Traffic, who highlighted the widespread presence of vehicles with non-standard number plates, tinted windows, green plates, pressure horns, revolving lights, and sirens being sold openly in Karachi’s markets. These modifications are deemed illegal and pose a safety threat, as they facilitate unlawful activities.

The DIG Traffic emphasized that such unauthorized vehicle modifications violate traffic laws and compromise public safety. In response to these concerns, the Commissioner of Karachi has issued a notification to halt the sale and installation of these items from April 8 to June 7, 2025. The objective is to curb criminal activity linked to modified vehicles and improve road safety.

The notification also empowers Station House Officers (SHOs) to file formal complaints regarding such offenses under Section 195(i)(a) of the Cr.PC. The authorities have called on the public to report any violations, with immediate enforcement of the ban across the Karachi Division.
