Pakistani Man Dies While Rescuing Son Stranded On Chairlift In KP Shangla

In a tragic turn of events, a man dies while attempting to rescue his son, who was stuck in a chairlift over the Indus River in northwestern Pakistan.

The father lost his life trying to save his 13-year-old son, who was stranded in a manually operated chairlift above the Indus River in the Bisham tehsil of Shangla. According to witnesses, the boy was stuck when his father, Aziz, attempted a rescue using a rope. The rope broke during the effort, causing Aziz to fall into the river, where he was swept away by the strong currents.

Despite Aziz’s fall, the boy remained trapped in the chairlift and was later rescued by locals after significant efforts. The victim’s family expressed frustration, noting they had contacted Rescue 1122’s Bisham station, but received no response, leaving the boy stranded since noon. Rescue services had not arrived to search for Aziz’s body.

Rescue officials claimed they received a call but were told to stand down as the boy had been rescued.

Following the incident, locals highlighted the dangers of using these chairlifts to cross the Indus River, where retrieving bodies can take months. In response, the Bisham local administration sealed the chairlift. This tragedy occurred almost a year after the dramatic rescue of eight people, including six children, stranded on a cable car hundreds of feet above the ground in Battagram.
