On Saturday, May 31, Korean Embassy, in joint collaboration with the Government of Punjab and the Walled City of Lahore Authority, hosted the “Korea-Pakistan Cultural Night” at the Picture Wall inside the Lahore Fort, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. The event, held under the theme “Echoes from History, Harmony through Cultures,” featured a variety of traditional music performances by Korean and Pakistani artistic groups.

From the Korean side, sorikkun (traditional Pansori singer) Ms. Sumi Pang, Daegeum (Korean bamboo flute) player Mr. Sungjae Lee, the Samulnori troupe “Youheung”, and the Pansori Ensemble “Harang-ga” showcased Korean traditional sounds.

Additionally, the Pakistani national Taekwondo team gave a Taekwondo demonstration. From the Pakistani side, performances highlighted Pakistan’s traditional music and dance, including Bansuri (Pakistani traditional flute), Tabla (traditional drum), and Dholak (a traditional drum similar to the Korean janggu). Dance performances included Kathak dance, a traditional dance of the Punjab region, and Dhamal, a performance art rooted in Sufi religious rituals.

A special highlight of the evening was the collaborative performances: a duet between Korea’s Daegeum and Pakistan’s Bansuri, and a joint performance of Korea’s Pangut and Pakistan’s Dhamal, beautifully showcasing the harmony of traditional cultures from both countries.
