Lahore High Court Directs the Arrest of Unlicensed Drivers

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has instructed the arrest of drivers found without licenses.

Justice Ali Zia Bajwa issued the directive, emphasizing immediate, indiscriminate action against those lacking a valid license. The order was made in response to a case involving an unfortunate incident where an underage driver caused the death of six family members.

Expressing condolences for the incident, Justice Bajwa highlighted the significant number of individuals driving without licenses. The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) informed the court that out of 7.3 million vehicles, only 1.3 million are licensed.

The court inquired about measures taken against unlicensed drivers, and the CTO reported initiating a crackdown, resulting in 999 cases registered against underage drivers. The incident has sparked calls for stricter measures on underage driving and heightened concerns about road safety in Lahore’s affluent areas.
