Lahore-Islamabad Distance to Shorten by 100 Kilometers with Motorway Upgrade

Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has announced a major upgrade to the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, which will significantly enhance travel between Lahore and Islamabad. The project involves expanding the motorway from four lanes to six lanes and extending it to connect Kharian with Islamabad.

This expansion is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2), offering a more efficient route for travelers. The extension will shorten the overall distance by around 100 kilometers, reducing travel time by approximately one hour. The development will provide significant benefits to commuters from key cities and towns, including Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum, and Gujar Khan, improving regional connectivity and facilitating smoother journeys.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at the National Highway Authority (NHA) Punjab Region Office. Minister Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted the importance of completing the project on time, with a focus on maintaining top construction quality. He also stressed the need for a comprehensive 30-year infrastructure plan to address future growth and demand in the region.

In addition to the motorway expansion, the meeting also addressed other ongoing infrastructure projects. One of the key points was the progress of the Multan Road to Ring Road corridor, with the Minister making it clear that any delays or substandard work would not be tolerated. The Federal Secretary for Communications, the Chairman of the NHA, and the CEO of RUDA were also present at the meeting, providing updates on various development projects in Punjab.

With the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway expansion, the region is set to experience enhanced transportation links, easing travel for both locals and tourists. This project marks a significant step forward in improving the country’s infrastructure, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient travel for everyone.
