Lahore authorities have developed an action plan to address the issue of waste disposal during the upcoming Eidul Azha season. In previous years, the remains of sacrificial animals would be indiscriminately dumped in streets, bazaars, and empty plots, leading to piles of rotting waste that would linger for weeks. To tackle this problem, the district administration has directed the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to establish 293 camps across the city, with one in each union council, to ensure adherence to proper disposal protocols. The public can register complaints about non-compliance or littering at these camps, where LWMC officials will be present to enforce cleaning and hygiene standards in their respective areas.

The camps will also educate the public on the correct disposal methods for sacrificial animal remains and distribute free plastic bags to facilitate safe handling and handover to sanitary workers. Additionally, over 166 sanitary workers and specialized cleaning machinery have been deployed in the city’s seven cattle markets. Waste transfer stations and cleaning arrangements have been set up at various levels, including union councils, Eid venues, urban centers, and markets. Unsafe waste disposal can lead to various diseases, and healthcare professionals have urged the public to cooperate with LWMC, wrap animal remains in plastic bags, and responsibly hand them over to sanitary workers. Promoting cleanliness aligns with the principles of Islam, and citizens are encouraged to report any instances of animal waste dumping to the authorities.
