LHC Orders Removal of Pervaiz Elahi and Family's Names from Prohibited List

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the removal of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his family members from the Passport Control List (PCL), following petitions challenging the government’s decision to place their names on the list. Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza presided over the case, dismissing the government’s opposition.

The petitions were filed by Pervaiz Elahi, his son Rasakh Elahi, and daughter-in-law Zahra Elahi, arguing that the inclusion of their names on the PCL was unjust and politically motivated. The family’s names had been removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) but were added to the PCL on July 8. Elahi’s lawyer claimed that this re-listing was done in bad faith.

The court ultimately ruled in favor of the Elahi family, ordering the immediate removal of their names from the PCL. This decision followed previous legal attempts by the family to remove the travel restrictions, which they argued were preventing them from performing religious duties like Umrah. Despite a prior court ruling that allowed temporary removal from the PCL, the names were re-added, leading to further legal action.

Pervaiz Elahi viewed the restrictions as acts of political victimization and sought the court’s intervention to permanently remove the limitations on his family’s ability to travel.
