LHC restores Lt Gen Munir Afsar as NADRA Chairman

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reinstated Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), overturning a previous decision that had invalidated his appointment.

A two-judge panel, led by Justice Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal, made the ruling after reviewing an intra-court appeal that contested the chairman’s removal.

The appeal, which challenged the caretaker government’s notification of Afsar’s appointment, was central to the case.

The court asked which specific notification was being contested, and the public advocate clarified that the challenge was limited to the caretaker government’s notification and did not address any new rules on such appointments.

Earlier, Justice Asim Hafeez had ruled Afsar’s appointment as null and void. The new ruling by the two-judge panel has reinstated Afsar to his position, with further discussions to follow. The petitioner argued for the reversal of the earlier decision, allowing Afsar to return to his duties.
