A concerning incident took place at Nur Khan Airbase as a stray bullet struck a parked C-130 military transport aircraft. The incident occurred at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning and was brought to attention when Flight Lieutenant Yahya Mansoor filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the airport police.

The FIR detailed that personnel were inspecting the aircraft when the stray bullet hit. The FIR was officially registered on Thursday night, invoking relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. This has prompted the airport police to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter.

This incident follows a previous occurrence in May when the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) had appealed to the commissioner, RPO, and CPO of Rawalpindi to enhance security measures. This appeal came after instances of gunshots near PAF Base Nur Khan, along with the discovery of bullet casings and chemical threads, which had resulted in damage to a cabin’s windscreen.

The prompt response from the PAF underscores their dedication to flight safety, especially following a prior incident in February. A stray bullet fired into the air had necessitated the suspension of flying operations at Nur Khan Airbase, causing disruption to the Prime Minister’s travel plans as well.

In order to ensure a conducive environment for VVIP movements and flight operations, authorities had requested the implementation of Section 144 by Rawalpindi’s district administration. The ongoing efforts by law enforcement to identify the culprits responsible for the stray gunfire emphasize the critical importance of stringent security protocols around military installations.
