NDMA Issues Nationwide Alerts for Rain and Urban Flooding Over Next 48 Hours

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA has issued a critical impact-based alert warning of widespread monsoon rainfall and potential urban flooding across Pakistan from June 26 to 28. The advisory covers multiple provinces, with a high likelihood of transportation disruption, drainage overflow, and emergency response operations in the coming days.

In Punjab, heavy rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are forecast for Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, and other districts. Urban flooding is expected in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Gujranwala, raising concerns over essential services and mobility.

Sindh is also under threat, with urban flooding anticipated in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Jamshoro, and Sujawal. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and other districts, which could cause road blockages, waterlogging, and damage to infrastructure.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s hilly areas, including Swat, Shangla, and Mansehra, are likely to see flash flooding and landslides. Similarly, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, especially Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Rawalakot, are at risk of riverine overflow and terrain-triggered disasters.

Authorities have been directed to prepare emergency services, clear drainage systems, issue public safety messages, and be ready for evacuations. Citizens, especially those living in low-lying or mountainous areas, are advised to stay cautious and limit unnecessary travel.

NDMA recommends downloading the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app for real-time updates and safety instructions during this high-risk period.
