The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Rs1.50 per unit decrease in the base electricity tariff for the upcoming fiscal year.
This decision, which has been forwarded to the federal government for final approval, sets the new base tariff at Rs34 per unit for FY2025–26, down from Rs35.50 per unit in the current fiscal year.

However, despite the reduction, electricity prices could see a short-term increase due to a proposed adjustment under the monthly fuel cost mechanism for May 2025.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request with NEPRA seeking a 10 paisa per unit hike in electricity rates based on fuel charges. A public hearing on this proposal is scheduled for June 30.
It is important to note that the monthly fuel adjustment will not apply to consumers served by K-Electric.
