Nida Saleh, a talented and determined woman from Lahore, has always had a passion for trains. With a degree in transportation engineering, she pursued her dream of becoming a train driver.

When she completed her studies, she applied to work as an engineer for the Orange Line. During this time, the company was training a new batch of train drivers, and Nida saw an opportunity to encourage the inclusion of women in the program.

She approached the Chinese management of the Orange Line with her suggestion, and they were supportive of her idea. With their encouragement, Nida’s dream began to take shape.

While her family was initially hesitant about her decision to pursue a career as a train driver, they eventually supported her after seeing her unwavering determination.

“Driving a train isn’t easy, but it’s not impossible either. It’s a job that comes with great responsibility,” Nida said. Before taking the driver’s seat, she ensures that all necessary checks, including servicing and maintenance, are thoroughly completed.

Following all standard operating procedures is a priority for her, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.

The Lahore Orange Line Train operates every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., covering 26 stations from Ali Town to Dera Gujran. Trains depart every five minutes, allowing for a smooth and timely commute for passengers.

Nida Saleh’s success is not just about breaking barriers in the male-dominated world of train driving but also about encouraging other women to follow their dreams and take on leadership roles in various industries.

As Pakistan’s first female train driver, Nida Saleh continues to inspire countless others to strive for excellence and equality.
