Pakistan and Bangladesh Commit to Enhancing Bilateral Relations

During the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar engaged in several significant bilateral meetings with world leaders, focusing on strengthening ties and cooperation.

In his first meeting with Md. Touhid Hossain, the Adviser for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, the two officials emphasized the historical, religious, and cultural connections between Pakistan and Bangladesh. They agreed to enhance dialogue and cooperation, particularly in trade, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people interactions. Additionally, they discussed revitalizing the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and strengthening collaboration in various multilateral forums.

Dar also met with Sam Matekane, Prime Minister of Lesotho, where they expressed satisfaction with the friendly relations between their nations. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and broadening cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people contacts.

Another meeting involved Shirley Ayorker Botchwey, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. The two discussed the upward trajectory of bilateral relations and expressed their resolve to strengthen ties based on shared values and mutual trust. They agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, and education, with Dar inviting Ghana to establish a resident mission in Islamabad to further boost cooperation. Ayorker congratulated Dar on Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2025-2026.
