The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning for a severe heatwave expected to hit most parts of the country beginning April 14, with temperatures projected to rise 6 to 8°C above normal. Karachi and other southern areas will also face unusually warm nights during this period.
Officials have cautioned that the sharp increase in temperatures could speed up snowmelt in the northern regions, raising the risk of glacial flooding and affecting river water flows. Citizens are being urged to take protective measures as the heatwave looms.

Those working outdoors — including farmers and construction workers — are especially vulnerable. Authorities recommend shifting work to cooler hours, wearing breathable clothing, and ensuring regular water intake to prevent dehydration. Use of wide-brimmed hats, damp cloths for cooling, and shaded rest breaks is strongly encouraged.
Experts also warn against consuming caffeine and sugary drinks, which can worsen dehydration. In the case of symptoms like dizziness or nausea, individuals should rest in a shaded area and drink fluids immediately. Community outreach efforts are being promoted to educate people on recognizing and managing heat-related illnesses.
