Pakistan Observes Kashmir Solidarity Day to Renew Commitment to the Struggle for Self-Determination

In commemoration of Kashmir Solidarity Day, Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s enduring quest for self-determination under United Nations (UN) resolutions. The annual event, observed by both the people and government of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, serves to express solidarity with the residents of occupied Kashmir and underscore the commitment to liberating the region from Indian subjugation.

Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar emphasized the occasion as an opportunity to honor the sacrifices made by Kashmiris over the past seventy-six years. He highlighted the relevance of UN Security Council resolutions, which advocate for the final disposition of held Kashmir through a democratic plebiscite, conducted under UN supervision.

President Dr. Arif Alvi, in his message, acknowledged the 76-year struggle of the people in the occupied valley for their right to self-determination. He noted the UN General Assembly’s annual resolution supporting the realization of this right for people under foreign occupation. President Alvi expressed regret over the inability of Kashmiris to exercise this inalienable right, emphasizing the militarized environment in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and India’s efforts to alter demographics and political dynamics.

Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi emphasized IIOJK as one of the longest-standing issues on the UN Security Council’s agenda, with Pakistan aiming to resolve it according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and relevant UN resolutions. He, along with Privatisation Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad, participated in a solidarity rally in Islamabad.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari underscored the significance of the party’s success in the upcoming general elections on February 8, linking it to the need for addressing Indian atrocities in held Kashmir. Bilawal expressed determination to champion the Kashmir cause once elected as prime minister, condemning India’s actions on August 5, 2019, as a violation of international law and UNSC mandates. He reiterated the party’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for peace, freedom, security, and dignity.
