Nine Pakistani students achieved distinguished recognition at the Istanbul University Model United Nations (IUMUN), Turkey’s largest public speaking competition, held from July 8 to 11, 2024, according to a statement from the Pakistan Consulate General in Istanbul.

Hosted by Istanbul University, a prestigious institution established in 1453 and renowned for its notable alumni like former Turkish President Abdullah Gul and former Turkish Foreign Minister Taran Gunes, the competition is one of Europe’s largest public speaking events. This year, it featured over 750 participants from more than 17 countries, including Turkey.

A diverse team of 13 students from Bay View Academy, Nixor O’Levels, Karachi Grammar School, and The Cedar School represented Pakistan. Despite being some of the youngest participants, they competed against college and university-level students and excelled in their respective committees.

The four-day event involved intense debates across ten committees, showcasing the students’ diplomacy and public speaking skills. The Consul General of Pakistan in Istanbul, H.E. Mr. Nauman Aslam, hosted the Pakistani team and their trainer at the Pakistan Consulate, congratulating them on their outstanding achievements.

The Consul General highlighted the significance of cultural and educational exchanges between Pakistan and Turkey for enhancing Pakistan’s international image. He emphasized the need to strengthen ties between educational institutions in both countries and assured continued support for Pakistani students from the Pakistani Mission in Turkey.

The event not only celebrated the students’ success but also highlighted the growing educational collaboration between Pakistan and Turkey, fostering mutual understanding and goodwill.
