Pakistan’s Disapproves UN’s Take on Returning Illegal Immigrants

On Monday, Pakistan emphasized that the decision to repatriate all undocumented foreigners living within its borders is a manifestation of the country’s sovereign domestic laws and is in accordance with relevant international standards and principles.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch made this statement in response to a press release issued by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“The Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan (IFRP) is applicable to all unauthorized foreign residents in Pakistan, regardless of their nationality or country of origin. This decision is grounded in Pakistan’s sovereign domestic legislation and aligns with pertinent international norms and principles,” the statement conveyed.

It’s important to note that all foreign nationals who are legally residing and registered in Pakistan fall outside the scope of this repatriation plan, as clarified by the spokesperson.

The government of Pakistan places the highest importance on fulfilling its commitments to safeguard the well-being and security of individuals in vulnerable situations.

“Our extensive history of hosting millions of Afghan refugees over the past four decades is a testament to our dedication,” she emphasized.

The international community is urged to intensify collaborative efforts to address enduring refugee situations by prioritizing lasting solutions. Pakistan remains committed to working with its international partners to achieve this goal.
