PMD Issues Warning for Rain and Hailstorms Nationwide

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rain, windstorms, and isolated hailstorms across the country from May 8 to 12.

An advisory issued on Wednesday stated that the weather system will first impact the northern and central regions before spreading southward. The PMD has warned of heavy rainfall and possible hailstorms in certain areas, urging local authorities to stay alert.

The PMD also cautioned that strong winds and hailstorms could cause damage to infrastructure, such as power lines, trees, and solar panels. Farmers, especially those in wheat-producing areas, have been advised to adjust their harvesting schedules based on the forecast.

Regional Forecasts:

  • Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Poonch are expected to experience intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and hail from May 8 to 12.
  • In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar during the same period.
  • Islamabad and parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, and Lahore, will likely face thunderstorms, gusty winds, and occasional hail from May 7 to May 11. Southern Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, may experience similar conditions from May 8 to 10.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is forecasted to have heavy rain and hailstorms in Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and nearby areas from May 7 to May 12, with southern districts like D.I. Khan and Waziristan being affected between May 8 and 10.
  • Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, and Lasbella, is expected to experience rainfall from May 8 to 10.
  • Sindh, particularly districts like Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar, may face thunderstorms and moderate rain from May 8 to May 10.

The PMD has urged authorities to take necessary precautionary measures, such as ensuring emergency response readiness and safeguarding vulnerable infrastructure. The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the peak of storms and stay informed through official weather updates.
