Policemen in Punjab, KPK, and Karachi Banned from Using Social Media During Duty

In a significant move to enhance professionalism, the police departments in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and Karachi have officially banned the use of social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, for on-duty officers and personnel.

This decision follows the circulation of several viral videos featuring police officers and female personnel, prompting concerns about their conduct while on duty.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz initiated the ban, emphasizing the need for police officers to focus on their responsibilities rather than engaging in social media activities.

The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police subsequently issued a comprehensive social media usage policy, warning that strict departmental action would be taken against personnel who violate these guidelines, particularly regarding the sharing of videos while in uniform.

Under the new directives, police officers must seek permission from the District Police Officer (DPO) or unit head before engaging in any social media activity.

Additionally, they are prohibited from sharing personal, political, or religious opinions online, with all official communications required to go through designated channels.

Following Punjab’s lead, KPK police have also barred personnel from social media usage, ensuring that the policy is strictly enforced.

Karachi’s Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has implemented a similar directive, mandating that any content featuring police uniforms or vehicles must receive prior approval before publication.

This coordinated effort across multiple provinces aims to uphold the integrity and focus of law enforcement personnel while on duty.
