Pakistan is facing a significant power shortages of 5,600 megawatts, resulting in extensive load shedding across both urban and rural areas. According to the Power Division, the national power demand is 25,000MW, while current production stands at 19,400MW.
This deficit has led to up to eight hours of power shortages in urban areas and up to 10 hours in rural regions. In areas with high line losses, residents are enduring even longer durations of 12 to 14 hours without electricity.

Power generation breakdown is as follows:
- Hydropower: 700MW
- Thermal power plants: 540MW
- Private sector power plants: 7,600MW
- Wind power plants: 900MW
- Solar power plants: 172MW
- Bagasse-based power: 123MW
- Nuclear power plants: 3,000MW
Despite the diverse sources of power generation, the supply remains inadequate to meet the escalating demand. The persistent load shedding has severely disrupted daily life, impacting businesses, education, and overall well-being of citizens.
