ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari attended the 35th National Day celebrations of the Russian Federation held in Islamabad, marking a significant moment of diplomatic warmth and cultural exchange between Pakistan and Russia.
The event, organized by the Russian Embassy, was attended by diplomats, government officials, and distinguished guests. President Zardari congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian ambassador, and the people of Russia on the occasion, extending heartfelt wishes on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan.

In his address, President Zardari highlighted the growing strength of Pakistan-Russia relations, emphasizing that the bilateral ties have improved over the years on the basis of mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests across various sectors. He noted that both countries have witnessed an increase in high-level engagements recently, laying the foundation for deeper understanding and stronger diplomatic connections.
“Pakistan is proud to share the joy of this important occasion with the people of Russia,” said President Zardari. “Our friendship with Russia has deepened with time, and we continue to work together closely on regional and international platforms.”
The President further stressed that Pakistan views Russia as a major global power, playing a key role in ensuring regional peace and stability in the Eurasian region. He lauded the constructive role played by Russia in promoting harmony across the region.
Referring to recent diplomatic developments, President Zardari mentioned the promising meeting held in Moscow between Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Tariq Fatemi, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. “Both sides reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region,” he added.

Highlighting future prospects, the President underscored the immense potential for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. “Let us reaffirm our commitment to enhancing understanding and collaboration between Pakistan and Russia,” he urged.

As part of the celebrations, President Zardari also cut a ceremonial cake and was given a briefing on Russian traditional arts and crafts, showcasing the cultural richness of the Russian Federation.
“Long live Pakistan-Russia friendship,” concluded President Zardari, expressing optimism for even stronger ties between the two nations in the years to come.
