PTA Moves to Curb Anti-State Content Amid Regional Strains

In response to growing diplomatic tensions between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its efforts to regulate digital content deemed harmful to national stability. The authority has compiled a list of high-profile Pakistani YouTubers allegedly involved in spreading hate against the state and military leadership.

Sources within the PTA confirmed that formal requests have been sent to the federal government, seeking urgent approval to block the listed YouTube channels. This step is part of a wider campaign aimed at controlling narratives that could threaten public order during a sensitive geopolitical period.

Notably, the list includes well-known media figures such as Imran Riaz, Sabir Shakir, Siddique Jan, and Shahbaz Gill. The PTA has already blocked channels belonging to Ahmed Noorani and Waqar Malik within Pakistan, indicating that enforcement has begun in phases.

While awaiting the government’s green light to proceed against the remaining accounts, the PTA has also shared the compiled evidence with YouTube’s parent company to prompt potential global action. These developments underscore the growing challenges of digital regulation in times of national tension.
