PTI Chairman Calls Faiz Hameed Issue ‘Internal Matter of army’

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan remarked that the army has its own internal mechanisms and can act against anyone at its discretion, in response to questions about the military custody of former spy chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Gohar was asked about PTI’s past demand for court martial proceedings against former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa. He replied that he did not recall the party ever making such a demand.

When reminded that PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, had indeed called for such proceedings, Gohar said he did not remember this issue.

On Monday, the military’s media wing disclosed that Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed had been placed under military custody, with field general court martial proceedings initiated against him related to the Top City housing scheme scandal. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that the action was taken under the Pakistan Army Act, following Supreme Court orders.
