The Punjab government has announced an immediate ban on the use of hose pipes across the province in a bid to curb water wastage as drought fears intensify. The ban affects a wide range of activities, including vehicle washing and water spraying in residential, commercial, and government facilities.
Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of the Environmental Protection Department, confirmed the measure, stating that it applies to all areas of Punjab and is effective immediately. “This restriction is essential to address the emerging water crisis,” he noted in a public statement.

Violators of the hose pipe ban may face strict penalties, as authorities step up efforts to enforce water conservation. The Environmental Protection Department also plans to implement monitoring strategies to ensure public compliance across neighborhoods and institutions.
Experts have raised repeated alarms over Pakistan’s dwindling water resources, with Punjab facing heightened challenges due to changing climate patterns and surging population demands. This ban is the latest in a series of conservation steps being rolled out nationwide to mitigate looming water shortages.
