Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced a landmark initiative to address the housing crisis in Punjab, revealing that 2.2 million families in the province do not own homes. During the inauguration of the “Zahra Homes” scheme in Kala Shah Kaku, she pledged to provide houses to 100,000 families within a year, with 100 deserving families already receiving homes through the collaboration of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the housing ministry in Maskan Ravi.
The CM also highlighted the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme, which aims to provide interest-free loans of up to Rs1.5 million to individuals owning one to 10 marla plots. Loan recipients will be required to repay Rs14,000 per month over seven years. Thousands of houses are under construction across 37 districts, many nearing completion. The CM assured that the scheme follows a strict check-and-balance system to maintain transparency and fairness.
