The Lahore Traffic Police has informed the public about a significant increase in the driving license fee for cars and motorcycles by the caretaker Punjab government. The fee for obtaining a driver’s license has been raised by 1566%, from Rs. 60 to Rs. 1000.
Citizens have been given until December 31 to obtain their licenses at the current rate. Starting from January 1, 2024, the new license fee will be Rs. 1000.

This decision has faced criticism on social media, with many expressing concerns that such a substantial fee increase may discourage responsible driving practices and impose an undue burden on law-abiding citizens contributing to road safety. The abrupt nature of the increase has raised questions about its potential impact on compliance with traffic regulations.
Additionally, the city traffic police had previously increased fines for learner’s permit holders, imposing a Rs. 2000 fine without registering cases against them.
