The Punjab Finance Department has called a provincial assembly session for June 13 to unveil its FY2025-26 budget, with Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman expected to prioritize business growth, digital finance, and trade facilitation. The budget aims to continue Punjab’s economic transformation agenda, building on recent fiscal reforms.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has launched a sharp critique of Punjab’s governance structure, condemning the absence of elected local bodies. “Having Punjab’s CM oversee drain cleanings exposes systemic failure,” stated a Sindh spokesperson, contrasting it with Sindh’s “functioning municipal system” that delivered effective Eid cleanliness campaigns across major cities.

The remarks highlight growing inter-provincial tensions over governance models. While Punjab prepares its development-focused budget, Sindh insists the province must first address its “local government vacuum” through immediate elections. Political observers note the critique may signal attempts to position Sindh as a model of devolved governance ahead of national local body elections.
As Punjab charts its economic course, the budget session will be closely watched for both its fiscal policies and responses to mounting demands for administrative decentralization.
