The Punjab Cabinet Committee has approved a comprehensive ban on kite flying and the production of dangerous kite strings. The decision, made during a meeting led by Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman, includes amendments to the Punjab Arms Ordinance 1965 and the Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance 2001.

The new regulations strictly prohibit the preparation and sale of kite strings, especially those made from metal or other hazardous materials.

Violators face severe penalties, including up to three years in prison for kite flying and up to five years or substantial fines for manufacturing and distributing dangerous kite strings.

Additionally, the committee has proposed collecting fines from the parents of children who violate the kite flying ban and banning unauthorized sale, repair, and sports shooting of firearms.

Amendments to the Punjab Vagrancy Ordinance 1958 and the Probation of Offenders Ordinance 1960 are also under consideration to strengthen enforcement against illegal activities.

Finance Minister Rahman emphasized that the new regulations aim to prioritize public safety and ensure that recreational activities do not endanger lives.
