The Punjab Assembly has officially passed a law imposing a full ban on kite flying, introducing severe penalties for violations. The amended Kite Flying Prohibition Act 2024 makes kite flying a non-bailable offense, with offenders facing imprisonment from three to seven years.
Under the new act, individuals involved in the production, sale, or transport of kites, metal wires, nylon threads, and sharp-edged manjha will face hefty fines ranging from Rs500,000 to Rs5 million.

Those caught flying kites will face a prison sentence of 3 to 5 years, a fine up to Rs2 million, or both. Kite makers and transporters will be subjected to 5 to 7 years in prison or fines up to Rs5 million, or both.
Children found participating in kite flying will face fines of Rs50,000 for a first offense and Rs1 million for a second offense. This law aims to prevent further loss of lives caused by kite-related accidents and ensure public safety.
