The Punjab government has introduced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for prisoners to use Public Call Office (PCO) facilities, providing them with regulated access to communicate with their families and legal representatives.
Under the new SOPs, prisoners are permitted to use PCO services from Monday to Saturday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
They are allowed to contact immediate family members, spouses, and legal counsel, with a weekly limit of 80 minutes of call time.
Special provisions have been made for women, juvenile, and death-row inmates, with PCO booths installed in their designated barracks.
This initiative is designed to ensure prisoners can maintain vital communication while adhering to strict security measures.
