Ramesh Singh Arora: First Sikh Minister in Punjab

Following Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz’s historic appointment as Punjab’s first female chief minister, another significant milestone was achieved in the province with the appointment of its first Sikh minister into the provincial cabinet.

Ramesh Singh Arora, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has been sworn in as a minister in Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s cabinet.

Ramesh Singh Arora, the Sikh politician, has been elected to the provincial assembly for his third consecutive term and has now been bestowed with a ministerial position in the cabinet.

Hailing from Narowal, Arora has been assigned the minorities portfolio. Notably, he made history as the first Sikh lawmaker of Punjab when he took oath as a member of the provincial assembly in 2013.

In addition to Ramesh Singh Arora’s appointment, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, another member from a religious minority in Punjab, has also been inducted into the provincial cabinet. Sindhu has been entrusted with the portfolio of human rights.
