Over 20 Children Hospitalised  After Eating Contaminated Ice Cream in Quetta

More than 20 children in Quetta’s Sariab area were hospitalized after consuming contaminated ice cream, health officials confirmed on Friday.

Dr. Abdul Hadi, Medical Superintendent at Civil Hospital Quetta, said the children were brought in unconscious from Kachi Bagh, Qambarani Road, and Bashir Chowk. He added that initial reports indicated the children had eaten ice cream that was unsafe for consumption.

According to the hospital, eight children were discharged after receiving first aid, while twelve remain under medical observation. Fortunately, none of them are in a life-threatening condition.

Parents of the affected children have expressed serious concern about the quality of food sold in their neighborhoods.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the ice cream vendor linked to the incident. Complaints have already been registered by the families of the victims. Authorities are now working to identify the source of the contaminated ice cream and prevent further cases.

Food safety experts stress that such incidents highlight the urgent need for strict monitoring. They emphasize that all food items, including frozen products, must be stored properly and handled hygienically.

The use of harmful additives, spoiled ingredients, or poor refrigeration can lead to dangerous health consequences, particularly for children.

Officials also underlined that food inspectors must check vendors regularly to ensure compliance with health standards. Perishable items like ice cream require special care in preparation and storage to avoid contamination.

This case of contaminated ice cream in Quetta serves as a reminder of the risks posed by unsafe food practices. Authorities have urged parents to remain cautious when buying food for children and to report any suspicious vendors to the police.
