Islamabad: 24 Sep 2024– Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, commended Murree Brewery Company for generating its own electricity. The historic beverage company, led by Mr. Isphanyar Bhandara, MNA, has commenced the production of 120 kW solar power at its Rawalpindi factories.
During her visit to the facilities, Ms. Alam inaugurated the solar power project alongside Mr. Bhandara, with officials from the environment department, staff, and local community representatives in attendance.

In her remarks, Ms. Alam emphasized that Pakistan is facing significant challenges due to the adverse effects of climate change on various socio-economic sectors, especially agriculture, energy, and water, and that addressing these issues requires support from both the industrial and private sectors in all possible ways.
Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s climate aide, stated that as the effects of human-induced climate change become increasingly apparent, the private sector in Pakistan has a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable business practices.
She highlighted the urgent need for action, noting that businesses in various sectors are beginning to recognize their responsibility to lower carbon emissions.
Additionally, she emphasized that enhancing their efforts is essential for contributing to a greener future for the country. Alam pointed out that the private sector’s engagement is vital not only for meeting carbon reduction targets but also for generating broader economic and social benefits in the fight against climate change, aligning with the government’s green and clean energy initiatives.
During a briefing with the Prime Minister’s coordinator, Romina Khurshid Alam, a senior representative from the beverage company highlighted that the solar energy project is expected to produce 166,440 units annually, powering their operations.
This initiative will help reduce carbon emissions by 150 metric tons each year and prevent the cutting down of 7,000 trees annually. Alam commended Murree Brewery for implementing the solar project, stating that their proactive and socially and environmentally responsible approach should serve as an inspiring example for other private sector businesses and industries across the nation.
