Severe Heatwave Grips Pakistan as NDMA Warns of Unstable Weather Ahead

As Pakistan braces for a prolonged heatwave from April 26 to 30, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert warning of soaring temperatures driven by a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. Daytime temperatures are expected to climb 5–7°C above normal in southern areas, including Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.

The upper half of the country—central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, KP, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—will also face temperatures 4–6°C above normal from April 27 to 30. Relief is likely from May 1, with forecasts of rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in northern regions, potentially cooling the parched landscape.

The public has been urged to avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and use water efficiently. Farmers are advised to adjust wheat harvesting plans and take precautions for livestock. In northern regions, increased heat could speed up snowmelt, raising the risk of flooding.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued a warning for unstable weather from May 1 to 7. Heavy rain, windstorms, lightning, and hail are expected across KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Punjab, and parts of Sindh and Balochistan. Risks of landslides and waterlogging have been highlighted.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, follow advisories, and use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time updates as the authorities work closely with local units to ensure public safety.
