Shujaat seeks to persuade Elahi to leave the PTI in yet another meeting in jail.

According to sources, in an attempt to persuade Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi, who has been imprisoned since June 1 in connection with multiple cases filed against him, to return to the fort of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), the party’s head and his cousin Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain met the incarcerated leader in Camp Jail, Lahore on Sunday.

Shujaat’s son Chaudhry Salik Hussain and his brother Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain were also present during the meeting, according to reliable sources.

Elahi was arrested on June 1 near his home in Lahore by anti-corruption officials in connection with a Rs70 million corruption case involving the misappropriation of development funds designated for the Gujrat district. Since then, the former Punjab chief minister has been arrested and freed many times on the orders of the competent courts.

Shujaat questioned about the health of his cousin throughout the encounter. According to the sources, similar interests, the current political climate, and other issues were discussed.

Shujaat informed Elahi that they had come together in politics and that it was in their best interests.

According to sources close to the situation, the PTI president is ready to jump ship, but his son, Moonis Elahi, is the primary impediment to Parvez Elahi rejoining the PML-Q.

It is worth noting that the PML-Q suspended Elahi’s basic party membership in January of this year for discussing the idea of the party merging with the PTI. The former Punjab chief minister was formally named as the PTI president on March 7.

The prominent lawmaker encouraged the former chief minister to persuade Moonis and his family to rejoin the PML-Q.

A medical team came at the camp jail ahead of Shujaat’s visit and performed a medical examination on the former chief minister.

According to the sources, the senior lawmaker will meet with Elahi again in the coming days.

Shujaat alluded to Elahi’s departure from the PTI.

Shujaat paid Elahi a visit at Camp Jail, Lahore, last month, amid a huge flight of figures from the erstwhile ruling party.

Officials with knowledge of the visit confirmed that Salik Hussain was present during the meeting. According to the sources, Shujaat inquired about his cousin’s health and addressed the country’s growing political situation following the May 9 riots.
