Sindh Declares Public Holiday to Mark Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s 46th Death Anniversary

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Friday, April 4, to observe the 46th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former prime minister of Pakistan. This decision was confirmed in a notification issued by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, declaring the closure of all provincial government offices on the day.

The holiday will extend to autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the provincial government’s control. The PPP is organizing a condolence gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, which is expected to draw a large crowd of party supporters and workers from across the nation to honor Bhutto’s legacy.

In a related event, yesterday, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Pakistan’s highest civilian honors on several notable individuals, including the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The Nishan-e-Pakistan award, the highest civil award in the country, was bestowed posthumously to Bhutto for his significant contributions. His daughter, Sanam Bhutto, accepted the award on his behalf in a prestigious ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr.

The event was attended by high-profile figures, including Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of various distinguished individuals across the nation.
