Sindh Government Suspends Salaries of Over a Thousand Absent Teachers and Employees

In Sindh, the salaries of 1,369 permanently absent teachers and employees have been ordered to be withheld following an investigation into their absenteeism. The scrutiny committee, established by the Sindh Education Secretary, submitted a report detailing the absence of these individuals, prompting the Education Secretary to take action against them.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the Sindh Education Department revealed that many of the absent teachers and employees are residing abroad. The investigation was led by an Additional Secretary, with input from two Deputy Secretaries and a Section Officer. They requested attendance records and evidence from Monitoring Officers and District Education Officers regarding the 1,369 cases.

This decision to withhold salaries comes as part of broader efforts to modernize Sindh’s education system. Recently, the Sindh government introduced a new GPA-based grading policy for matriculation and intermediate exams, which will take effect in 2025. This policy eliminates traditional rankings, meaning students will no longer be classified as first, second, or third based on marks.

Additionally, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Sindh Higher Education Commission and Tech Valley Google to enhance technological advancements in the education sector. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized the significance of these initiatives for educational transformation in the province, stating that they aim to bring positive changes through technology.
