Sindh Introduces New Grading System for Matric and Inter

The Sindh government has announced a new grading system for matriculation and intermediate students, replacing the traditional numerical scores with a grade-based evaluation, according to ARY News. This change is set to take effect in 2025 and aims to provide a more well-rounded assessment of students’ performance.

Developed by the Inter-Board Coordination Committee (IBCC), the new system introduces grades ranging from “Exceptional” for scores of 95% and above to “Unsatisfactory” for scores below 40%. The shift eliminates the concept of first, second, and third positions, instead focusing on a detailed reflection of student abilities.

The grading structure includes:

  • A++ (Exceptional) for 95% and above
  • A+ (Outstanding) for 90-94%
  • A (Excellent) for 85-89%
  • B++ (Very Good) for 80-84%
  • B+ (Good) for 75-79%
  • B (Fairly Good) for 70-74%
  • C (Above Average) for 60-69%
  • D (Average) for 50-59%
  • E (Below Average) for 40-49%
  • U (Unsatisfactory) for below 40%

This new system also raises the minimum passing marks from 33% to 40%, replacing the “F” (Fail) designation with “U” (Unsatisfactory). While Sindh is the first province to adopt this grading change, other provinces like Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan have yet to implement the new policy.
