Dadu Police Intervene in Underage Marriage Attempt, Rescue 13-Year-Old Bride

On Monday, Dadu police prevented an underage marriage attempt, rescuing a 13-year-old girl named Alisha Jamali from a marriage ceremony in the village of Daduni Jamali.

Acting on reliable information, local police, assisted by female officers, raided the location and found the girl dressed as a bride. She informed the authorities that her parents were forcing her to marry an older man.

Six individuals, including the groom, were arrested under the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, and investigations have begun.

Earlier in May, the Lahore High Court issued a significant ruling mandating penalties for Nikahkhawans (marriage registrars) who officiate underage marriages. Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu delivered the verdict in response to a plea by Azmat Bibi, emphasizing the need for documentary proof of the bride’s age and holding Nikahkhawans and witnesses accountable.
