Karachi Heatwave Causes 17 Deaths In 36 Hours

Severe heat in Karachi has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 17 people in the last 36 hours, with many identified as drug addicts. The heat, compounded by the absence of sea breezes, has created dire conditions, prompting rescue teams to respond extensively across neighborhoods, transporting bodies to morgues.

Rescue sources confirmed that 17 bodies were brought to the morgue within this period, highlighting the severity of the situation. Most of the deceased were visibly drug addicts, found in areas including Lyari, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jehanabad, Liaquatabad, Landhi, Lines Area, and Garden.

In the Lines Area, Bilal, a father of three, succumbed to the heatwave, reportedly collapsing due to heat stroke exacerbated by power outages, leading to cardiac arrest. Another body was discovered in Clifton.

Among the casualties, two deaths occurred on Wednesday, with 49 others severely affected by the extreme temperatures. The Sindh Health Department identified the deceased as 54-year-old Fazal Rahman and 54-year-old Ramesh.

At the Civil Hospital, 22 individuals were admitted for heatwave issues, resulting in two fatalities, while Liaquatabad Government Hospital received 22 patients for similar reasons.
