Supreme Court Directs Transfer of Dam Funds to Federal Government's Public Account

On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of dam funds to the federal government’s public account. This decision was part of a written ruling concerning the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Funds case, which also called for the closure of the Supreme Court’s dedicated account for these funds.

The court directed that a sub-account be established under the government’s public account to facilitate the transfer and management of the funds.

It emphasized the need for the federal government to expedite the transfer and manage the markup, clarifying that the funds could be used for dam construction as necessary.

The federal government had requested the release of these funds from the Supreme Court. During the hearing, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman stated that a request had been made for the funds to be handed over to the federal government and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

He noted that the funds were previously deposited in an account overseen by the Supreme Court. WAPDA’s counsel, Saad Rasool, confirmed that Rs 20 billion had been collected for the dam funds.
