The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan has announced the temporary closure of two runways at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport due to the emergence of cracks, raising concerns about flight operations.
This decision comes in the wake of the aviation industry’s heightened focus on safety and infrastructure maintenance.
The CAA, which is responsible for supervising air travel in Pakistan, revealed that the runways with designations 25-L and 7-R at Karachi airport have developed cracks that require immediate attention. In response to this issue, the CAA has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) detailing the schedule for necessary repairs. The plan involves the closure of both runways on a daily basis for the next five months.

The main objective of this closure is to facilitate thorough repair work to address the cracks and ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the airport’s infrastructure. Throughout the repair period, flights will be rerouted to alternative runways, thus ensuring that passenger and cargo services can continue with minimal interruption.
