The ‘orchestrated’ vandalism of May 9 will never be permitted once more: COAS

General Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), promised the ranks and files on Wednesday that everyone accountable for defaming the country on May 9 would unquestionably be brought to justice, according to a statement from the military.

No one will be permitted to desecrate the memorials of our shuhada (martyrs). As he visited the Sialkot Garrison, he was reported as stating, “They are a source of inspiration and pride for the rank and file of the military forces, law enforcement organisations, government officials, and the people of Pakistan.

As soon as he arrived, the COAS, according to a statement, deposited a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument and lavishly honoured the martyrs who gave their lives in defence of the nation’s pride, honour, and dignity.

“The highest abode in the hereafter has been guaranteed to the martyrs, and they will continue to be held in the highest regard by the people of Pakistan. The government of Pakistan and its military forces would always hold every shuhada and their families with the highest regard and dignity as they continue to be honoured for their tremendous sacrifices, he added.

The COAS appreciated under command formations for their hard work, devotion, high morale and professionalism.

During his interaction with officers and troops, the army chief stressed upon maintaining focus on army’s professionalism and preparedness to deal with complex internal and external security challenges including propaganda warfare.

Earlier on arrival, the COAS was received by Commander Gujranwala Corps.

In an unprecedented show of vandalism last week, PTI supporters had attacked and caused damage to the historic Corps’ Commander’s House — originally known as Jinnah House and which once served as the residence of the founding father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah — hours after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested PTI chief Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case on Tuesday.

Pictures and videos from the historic building showed that all the rooms, halls, drawing rooms, living rooms, walls, curtains, doors, wooden ceilings, and even the floor had been burnt by the protesters.
