Toshakhana 2.0 IHC Issues Notices to Involved Parties on Bushra Bibi’s Petition

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the relevant parties regarding the post-arrest bail plea filed by Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in the ongoing Toshakhana II case. The decision was made during a hearing presided over by Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb on Thursday. Bushra Bibi’s lawyer argued that she has been in custody since July 13 and requested an early hearing, but the court maintained that the case would proceed as per normal protocol, with a new hearing date to be announced next week.

The Toshakhana case involves allegations of the illegal retention of state gifts, including a Bulgari jewelry set received by Bushra Bibi during an official visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021. The set, comprising a ring, bracelet, necklace, and earrings, was valued at approximately PKR 75.66 million.

According to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the jewelry was not deposited in the Toshakhana as required by law, and its undervaluation caused a loss of over PKR 32.85 million to the national treasury.

The accusations against Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan include violations of the National Accountability Ordinance, highlighting the potential misuse of state assets during their tenure.
