A devastating case of child abuse has shaken Lahore’s Kahna area, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old boy. The victim was sexually assaulted in a dye factory and subsequently killed by the suspect, Sehroze, who filled his stomach with air from a pressure pipe to suffocate him. Despite rushed hospitalization, the victim succumbed to severe internal damage caused by the high air pressure.
The accused has been apprehended by the police, bringing some solace to the grieving family. However, this incident highlights the alarming rate of child abuse in Pakistan. According to the National Commission for Human Rights’ 2023 annual report, 11 children are abused daily, with 4,213 cases reported across the country.

The report reveals a disturbing gender divide, with 53% of victims being girls and 47% boys. Specifically, 2,251 female victims and 1,962 male victims were reported. These numbers underscore the urgent need for increased awareness and protection measures to safeguard Pakistan’s children.
The Cruel Numbers reports by Sahil, an organization focused on child protection, provide valuable insights into child abuse trends in Pakistan. Their research shows that acquaintances are often the perpetrators, and children between 6-15 years old are most vulnerable.
