Two Japanese climbers disappeared while attempting K2’s summit on Saturday. According to Shigar Deputy Commissioner Waliullah Falahi, Kazuya Hirade and Kenro Nakajima fell from 7,500 meters on K2’s western side.
Pakistani Army helicopters conducted a search but found no movement from the climbers, who were spotted below the 100-meter mark. The helicopters were unable to land, prompting plans for a ground rescue team, though the climbers’ condition remains unknown.

In other news, climbers from Pakistan, Russia, and Nepal successfully summited Broad Peak (8,051 meters) during a brief period of favorable weather. With over 2,000 climbers in Gilgit-Baltistan this season, efforts are ongoing to reach the summits of K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum-I, Gasherbrum-II, and Nanga Parbat.
Mirza Ali’s Karakoram Expeditions reported that nine members reached Broad Peak’s summit early Saturday, overcoming severe weather conditions and deep snow.
