Two Policemen Killed in Militant Attack on Judges

On Friday, at least two policemen were killed in an attack on a convoy of local judges in northwestern Pakistan. The incident occurred in the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, which has seen a rise in militant activity.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant group with a history of deadly attacks, is believed to be behind the recent violence. Despite an uneasy truce collapsing in November 2022, the group has continued its attacks on civilians and security forces, with operations launched by the military to combat them.

District Police Officer Abdul Salam Khalid confirmed that the attack targeted the police escort rather than the judges themselves. Regional Police Officer Nasir Mehmood noted that such attacks on law enforcement are common in the area.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the violence against judges and police, calling it “sad and condemnable” and demanded a detailed report. The region has experienced significant militant violence recently, with multiple attacks resulting in numerous casualties.
