Vision on Wheels: Al-Shifa Trust Unveils Pakistan's First Mobile Eye Operation Theatre Units Generously Donated by OGDCL

Al-Shifa Trust, in collaboration with the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), inaugurated three of Pakistan’s first Mobile Eye Operation Theatre (OT) Units on April 30, 2025. The ribbon cutting ceremony was performed by Mr. Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO of OGDCL, alongside Maj Gen (Retd) Rehmat Khan, President Al-Shifa Trust and other senior representatives from both organizations. The Mobile OT has been generously donated by OGDCL as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Each of the 3 surgical units is composed of:

  1. A pre-operative part that is equipped with a modern autoclave, an 18KW generator, and a pre-operative assessment space capable of accommodating 4–5 patients at a time.
  2. A surgical area featuring twin OT tables. This space allows two surgeons to operate simultaneously.

The new Mobile Operation Theatre units will enable Al-Shifa Trust to conduct cataract surgeries and other vision-restoring procedures directly in communities with limited healthcare infrastructure.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Fateh Jang where an OGDCL-sponsored surgical eye camp was simultaneously in progress.

Addressing the ceremony, Maj Gen (R) Rehmat Khan thanked OGDCL for its continued support and reaffirmed Al-Shifa’s dedication to delivering free, quality eye care across Pakistan.

The chief guest of the ceremony, Mr. Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO, OGDCL emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in delivering quality healthcare to marginalized communities. “OGDCL remains committed to supporting initiatives that bring long-term impact. These mobile OT units will play a vital role in restoring sight and changing lives.”
