Regarding Imran Khan’s arrest

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan’s 22nd Prime Minister, has been in custody for sixty days since his arrest on August 5. He was convicted in the Toshakhana case, resulting in a three-year prison sentence for the improper sale of state gifts.

The former cricket star, who founded his political party in April 1996, maintains his innocence. He filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging his sentence.

On August 30, the IHC suspended the three-year sentence imposed on PTI chairman Imran Khan. However, his detention at Attock Jail persisted, as a newly established special court for cases under the Official Secrets Act directed the jail authorities to keep him in custody on judicial remand in connection with a controversial US cipher-related case.

Imran Khan is renowned for his philanthropic activities, including the establishment of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Numl College in Mianwali.

Cricket Career

Imran Khan enjoyed a two-decade-long international cricket career in the late twentieth century. He captained the Pakistani team to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

In total, Khan scored 3,807 runs and claimed 362 wickets in Test cricket, earning the distinction of being one of eight cricketers worldwide to achieve an ‘All-rounder’s Triple’ in Test matches. He was later honored with induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.

Political Journey

Imran Khan contested the National Assembly of Pakistan seat in the 1997 general election as a PTI candidate in two constituencies, NA-53 Mianwali and NA-94 Lahore, but was unsuccessful, losing both seats to PML (N) candidates. In 2013, he formed a government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while leading his party in opposition in Punjab and Sindh.

However, in 2018, Imran Khan’s PTI secured the most seats in the national and provincial assemblies, with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declaring their victory with a total of 116 seats out of the 270 contested.

Marital Life

Imran Khan has been married twice, with neither marriage lasting. He wed British national Jemima Goldsmith in 1995 but ended their relationship in 2004. Subsequently, he married Reham Khan in 2015, but their marriage ended in divorce within 10 months.

Imran Khan then entered into matrimony with Bushra Bibi, a resident of Pakpattan city in Punjab, and they continue their relationship to this day.
