Pakistan's Mobile Phone Imports Soar to Rs. 37 Billion in September

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), mobile phone imports in Pakistan reached a significant level in September 2023:

  • In Pakistani Rupees (Rs.), mobile phone imports in September 2023 amounted to Rs. 37.1 billion, marking a 13.3 percent increase compared to imports of Rs. 32.7 billion in the previous month, August 2023.
  • These imports showed a substantial year-on-year increase as well, rising by over 175 percent compared to imports of Rs. 13.46 billion in September 2022.

For the first three months of the current fiscal year (July-September FY24), mobile phone imports amounted to Rs. 88.95 billion, indicating a remarkable 147 percent increase when compared to imports of Rs. 35.9 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year (FY23).

In terms of US dollars, the mobile phone imports in September 2023 were $124.51 million, reflecting a 12 percent increase compared to imports of $111.34 million in August 2023 and a notable 113 percent increase compared to imports of $58.407 million in September 2022.

For the entire period of July-September FY24, the mobile phone imports in dollar terms reached $304 million, showing an 89 percent increase compared to imports of $160.2 million in the same period of FY23. This data suggests a growing demand for mobile phones in Pakistan, leading to increased imports of these devices.
